Front Cover and Contents Page

Front Cover and Contents Analysis

For my preliminary task I was asked to produce a front cover and contents page for a new college magazine. I believe I was successful in this for the following reasons; throughout both, front cover and contents page it was important to stick to the same colour scheme in order for the magazine to look professional in which I did so. I chose a neutral coral pink colour and complimented it with black and white in order for the text to stand out. This is also essential as people are more likely to pick up the magazine and read it if it stands out. I used images relevant to each story so people are more likely to want to read the story inside after seeing the picture.  My front cover also included pop outs advertising discounts. This made my magazine successful as it attracts people to the magazine as they will want to receive these discounts. Finally, it was important that I made my magazine appropriate for my target audience which was teenagers in the collage. I successfully did this as the stories I included in the magazine were picked as a result of the research I carried out (questionnaire). The questionnaire was completed by students from the college so I was able to understand specifically what my target audience would prefer to read about. This made my magazine more interesting.
However, there are improvements that could potentially be made to my magazine to make it more successful such as; I could have choses a colour scheme more gender appropriate so it didn’t just catch the eye of a female audience as I want it to appeal to everyone. I need to also make sure that the pictures used in the magazine are taken purely by me to make the magazine original.
